Our
Awards
Firstly and foremostly, we are delighted to have won these accolade’s. It means a lot to a
new business.
We have twenty years’ experience servicing the pub trade and have spent more time
in the last decade, removing taps from closed pubs, than installing them. Hence we
were well aware that opening a pub was a very risky undertaking. We knew that we
needed something different to succeed. We tackled this through design and food
offering. Limerick didn’t have a Woodfired pizza oven and we felt there was an
opening for one, along with good selection of drinks, including craft beers.
We wanted to have something for everyone. In a traditional home, the adults
socialised in the ‘Good Sitting Room’ and youngsters were confined to the kitchen
and back yard. This is reflected in the different areas of the pub. We have a good
sitting room (used by mature customers), a kitchen and a ‘bathroom’ snug (young
people gravitate to this area). We sourced a vintage bath on dondeal and converted it
to a couch, an actual toilet as seating, with a glass topped wash basin for drinks. This
has certainly raised a few eyebrows, but has created the talking point we were aiming
for. Families and groups of friends sit at the kitchen table, enjoying a pizza and a pint.
The occasional chess players turn up too.
With the drinks culture change in Ireland, we are about having a pizza with a few
sociable pints and maybe playing a boardgame to boot. ‘Cards against humanity’ is a
firm favourite and its lifts our spirit to hear laughter from different corners of the pub.
It’s great to see young people enjoying themselves without excessive alcohol. We also
offer a range of non-alcoholic drinks, at near cost price, as we don’t believe in
penalising the designated driver.
Our ‘Pizza Garden’ is a great outdoor space, with an Inglenook fireplace, which is
perfect for both winter and summer events. Last winter we showed Game of Thrones
weekly. With the lights turned off and candles everywhere, it proved a great success.
We currently host monthly poetry readings out there, as well as private parties.
We have been told by many that we have the best pint in Limerick. In this instance we
will concede that ‘the customer is always right’. With our past experience, we are
close to the perfect pint, particularly Guinness. It has its own cooling system, directly
behind the tap, giving a very short draw. Local Hotels direct tourists, looking for the best pint, to our pub.
We are a hands on, family run pub and our motto is ‘Nothing is a problem’. Every
customer is made feel welcome and this is reflected in our Google reviews. We have not realised our full
potential yet and this award means so much to us and will help along the way.
